everything changed
with approximately 3200 books at home to read, something needed to be done. speed reading became a necessity but i just didn't get it! how could skimming through text be "reading"? finally a site and a phrase and a metronome (of all things) caught my eye. the phrase was "non-subvocalization". if i flashed the sentence "the man jumped over the moon" really quick at you, you would get it. did you sound (vocalize) out every word? no. and that's the key. the metronome is just to keep the rhythm. ticktickticktick. my eyes go twice over every line and quickly and i'll be damned. i'm getting it all better, it's playing like that movie in my head, i'm comprehending totally! it takes practice and some concentration but i'll be damned. after 25 years of reading, i'm reading anew. everything changed. i get it.
